About Kya

Kya is a Mancunian writer, editor, presenter and the co-founder and owner of The Read Room, a book club 'where literature meets late nights', connecting audiences with authors from around the globe.

The company has been spotlighted by Hypebae, the Guardian, BBC, Stylist and others. They recently announced a collaboration with Selfridges, and have partnered with MOTH, Moda, Lillet and others.

Kya has previously been nominated for a National Diversity Award, a Brightlist Award, and been specially commended by the Freelance Writing Awards. She was praised as a Journalist to Watch by Women in Journalism and named as one of nine women making real change in Greater Manchester by Manchester's Finest.

She absolutely loves to read, and is working on the first draft of her first novel.

As a freelance writer and editor, Kya has worked for titles including Metro, Stylist, gal-dem, Soho House, Time Out, Cosmopolitan and more.

Kya has worked as a presenter for several years, interviewing filmmakers, musicians and authors, and hosting for the likes of Dazed, Mubi, Nike, Beats by Dre, We Invented the Weekend, Madri Cerveza, I Like Networking, Factory International, Black British Book Festival and more.

Previously, Kya was the Editor-in-Chief and founder of Aurelia Magazine, working with Nike, ASOS, FACT, Footasylum, Festival of Debate, etc; she has also held positions at LADbible, guest edited the popular series 'The Passage That Changed Me' for gal-dem, and worked as a freelance editor for Metro UK.
